If you are diagnosed with an incurable STD, such as HIV or Herpes (HSV), life isn't over! These illnesses are treatable and you can still carry on a social life in a sexually responsible way. There is an ethical issue regarding exposure of others to the infection, but There are very active available resources for finding others in the same situation who would not suffer from exposure and are as eager as you are to carry on normal social relationships.
